Welcome To Vaal Triangle Info Family Trees

This site is not limited to Vaal Triangle users. It is available to all South Africans wishing to publish their family trees online. At the moment, this can be done for free. Take advantage of this offer while it still stands. In the future, we may have to assess the site's popularity and server space usage & costs to see if our free offer can continue.

VT Info Family Trees uses software called PhpGedView. It is very much like a desktop genealogical program but with the added advantage of being able to view and edit your genealogy online. It has full editing capabilities, full privacy functions, can import from GEDCOM files, and supports multimedia like photos and document images. PhpGedView also simplifies the process of collaborating with others working on your family tree. Your latest genealogy information is always on our website and available for others to see.

What is GEDCOM?
GEDCOM is a data format that allows different types of computers and programs to exchange genealogical data. GEDCOM is an acronym of Genealogical Data Communication. It was originally developed by the Family History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) to exchange data between the various computer systems at the Family History Library, LDS temples, and archives of the LDS Church, including its Personal Ancestral File genealogical program. It has also been adopted by virtually all other vendors of genealogical programs and integrated into their products, becoming the standard for data transfer among amateur genealogy programs. Thanks to GEDCOM, you can enter data into one genealogical software program such as Family Tree Maker, Brother's Keeper, etc., export it in GEDCOM format and send it to other genealogists or relatives without regard to the computer program they are using.

Do you have a GEDCOM that you would like us to publish on this site?
Send us an email to the Vaal Triangle Info Webmaster with your GEDCOM as an attachment. We will set up an account for you with administrator permissions and let you know as soon as your genealogy is uploaded and viewable via the Internet.

Take a look around
The best place to start at would be to choose one of the different family trees. This can be done by hovering your mouse over the second button from the left on the top navigational menu. Once you have selected a particular family tree, choose one of the charts from the Charts menu, go to the Individual list, or search for a name or place.

N.B. Please note that the the menu and search functions, only apply to the selected family tree and not to the site as a whole.

If you have trouble using the site, you can click on the Help icon to give you information on how to use the page that you are currently viewing.

Thank you for visiting this site.
